What is NF525 certification?
NF525 certification is a standard that guarantees the compliance of cash register software with security, inalterability, data retention and archiving requirements to combat VAT fraud. It's been a legal requirement since 2018 on pain of a €7,500 fine per non-certified software.
Which professionals are covered by the NF525 standard?
The standard is mandatory for all VAT-registered professionals invoicing customers not subject to VAT. Foodservice professionals are subject to this standard.
Is a professional cash register mandatory for my restaurant?
The law does not require merchants to equip themselves with a cash register software or system, or a cash register. However, since January 1, 2018, in order to combat VAT fraud, all VAT-registered professionals recording customer payments using cash register software are required to use a secure, NF525-certified system.
What are the risks of using non-certified cash register software?
In the case of non-certified software, you risk a fine of €7,500 per non-compliant cash register system or software, as well as a request for compliance within 60 days. In the case of false certification, you risk a fine of €45,000 and up to 3 years' imprisonment.
How do I know if my cash register software is certified?

Are NF525-certified cash registers and software more expensive?
Certification has no influence on the price of cash register solutions. It simply certifies that the accounting solution complies with French tax regulations. It's a guarantee of compliance and security for your customers' transactions, but also of the reliability of your cash register provider.
