Welcome to the world of gastronomy! If you are looking for a name for your restaurant, you have come to the right place.

Choosing the right name for your establishment is essential, as is its layout and menu prices. But don't worry, we are here to help you find the perfect name that will make your guests' hearts beat faster!

Best practices for restaurant name ideas

Do a big brainstorm

A good restaurant name can clearly contribute to its success. Indeed, a well-chosen name can attract consumers' attention, create a positive brand image and strengthen your customers' loyalty. So don't leave the choice of your restaurant name to chance. It must be evocative, easy to pronounce and remember, and unique!

Promote your restaurant's concept

First, think about the history of your restaurant. What inspired you to open your establishment? Use that story to create a unique name that reflects your vision.

Think also about your concept: for example, does your restaurant offer vegan food and therefore defend the cause of animals? Is it ecological? Does it promote the consumption of local French products? Is it cosmopolitan? Or maybe your values are simply conviviality and sharing?

For example, Street Bangkok has chosen the perfect name to highlight Thai street food!

Look at the names of your competitors

Look to the competition for inspiration! Especially from your direct competitors who share your style/theme and/or your values. Of course, the point is to be inspired and not to copy!

Use business name generators

Did you know that? There are indeed generators of company names... And therefore of restaurants! Here are some sites that can certainly help you:

Name of a restaurant

How do we make sure we find the right name for our restaurant?

Follow our advice to find the right name for your restaurant. But don't forget: there is no such thing as a perfect name, your choice is personal even if it has to be strategic!

Bet on an original restaurant name

Not only should your restaurant name be simple to remember, but it's even better if it's original!

Here are a few inspirations (aptly named, by the way!):

  • Va & Vins (a good word play that attracts attention for sure!)
  • Ballekes (no need to explain, you get the idea!)
  • Wok n' Roll (for wok and rock 'n' roll lovers)
  • Life of Pie
  • Croc the Loup (for crunchy sandwiches to die for!)
  • Pita pan (for delicious pita bread!)
  • Thai Tanic (tribute to the Titanic...)
  • The Codfather (you don't have to be a movie buff to understand the reference!)

Take the easy way out

Your restaurant name should be catchy, easy to remember and easy to pronounce. You want customers to remember your name and tell their friends and family about it.

Albert Fitoussi, an Innovorder customer, called his restaurant Alfi, a contraction of Al-bert + Fi-toussi. Simple and effective.

Here are a few examples of names of establishments that are sure to be remembered!

  • 50 shades of coffee: as memorable as the movie 50 Shades of Grey, we are talking about coffee here!
  • Via Roma : famous restaurant franchise, we understand that we are talking about Italian gastronomy. With its rather short compound name, this establishment has a name that is in any case easily memorable!
  • Ramen Station: increasingly popular, try delicious ramen at the Ramen Station!
  • Falafel Fix: you guessed it, it's about falafels and Lebanese cuisine.

We can also think of many other restaurants such as Buffalo Grill or Sushishop as great brands, or of a restaurant that has no other name than "Le Nom M'échappe" located in the Bourse district in Paris.

Send a message to your customers through your name

The name of your restaurant should also reflect the identity of your establishment. You want your guests to know what to expect before they even walk through your door. So if you serve sophisticated French cuisine, your name should reflect that elegant French Touch. If you're a casual restaurant serving tasty burgers, your name should also exude that friendliness!

Big Fernand, for example, takes the classics of American gastronomy, burgers and French fries, revisited in a very French way.

How to register the name of your restaurant?

You're ready to bring your dream restaurant to life! But before you can do that, you need to protect the name you've so carefully chosen. Don't worry, the restaurant name filing process is easier than you think!

  • First of all, make sure that the restaurant name you have chosen is available by performing a quick online search on the INPI website.
  • Once you have verified that the name is available, you can choose the type of registration that best suits your establishment. You can choose between trademark and trade name, each offering different protection to your restaurant name.
  • Then, simply fill out the online or mail-in application form and submit it to INPI.
  • Now all you have to do is wait for the INPI's confirmation!

It may seem like a tedious task, but it's actually a simple and easy process that allows you to protect your restaurant and move forward with confidence.
